The Derailers’ Brian Hofeldt is safe after being struck by a drunk driver early Sunday morning on his return home from a Dallas show to spend Mother’s Day with his family. The drunk driver unexpectedly swerved into Brian’s lane and sent his car off a 15-foot low-water crossing bridge, resulting in a 30′ airborne flight before the vehicle tumbled several times to a stop. Brian was less than three miles from his house when the accident occurred.
Brian sent us an email to let us know that he was OK, along with the photos taken by his wife Tiffany the next morning.
I’m more somber about the incident now after waking up today, but still feel extremely lucky! The car is of course totaled, but unbelievably I survived. The paramedics told me to go out and buy a lottery ticket because I was the luckiest man alive that day.
We’re grateful that Brian is safe today, but angry that drinking and driving has threatened the life of yet another musician.

Thanks so much to all of you for your kind words and love in this scary, but also joyous time for my family and me. I’m still a bit racked up and sore in the back/neck/shoulder, but sooo lucky to be alive! It has been wonderful to hear and feel the love and genuine happiness from all my friends and family that I’m still alive to be with you all.
I’ll look forward to seeing y’all soon.
Yer pal, Brian
