Best in Texas reviews new Walt Wilkins CD Diamonds In The Sun
Posted by: admin in Daily Buzz, Reviews, Walt Wilkins
When Walt Wilkins decided to put a band together, known as the Mystiqueros, little did we know he was putting together one of the Lone-star state’s super groups: three songwriters, three singers, two guitar slingers, a powerful rhythm section - and we haven’t even gotten to Walt, a songwriter’s songwriter, revered by anyone who has even attempted to write a song. Diamonds In The Sun is a complete band effort with Bill Small, John Greenberg and Marcus Eldridge all contributing songs and vocals. And Ramon Rodriguez provides the backbone groove on the kit. You can hear Walt smile throughout the entire record. “Diamonds in the Sun,” ”Just Like Hank,” “Red River Blues,” a classic take on “Shape I’m In” and, of course, “Trains I Missed.” All are standout tracks. We all owe Walt a debt of gratitude for his contributions to the Texas culture. I love you, Walt!
