Tex-centric label Palo Duro Records today re-launches with a new name its chart-climbing live recording of Texas music from a tiny Texas town, LUCKENBACH! COMPADRES! (SONGS OF LUCKENBACH TEXAS). The CD is expected to return to retail shelves in the next several weeks.

The album’s name change, from VIVA! TERLINGUA! NUEVO! released by Palo Duro Records in October 2006, is the result of the resolution of a lawsuit filed by Jerry Jeff Walker dba Groper Music against Palo Duro Records. The renamed LUCKENBACH! COMPADRES! will return to retail stores in the next several weeks and will be available through all online music services including iTunes, Sony Connect, Napster and Rhapsody.

Over two nights in January 2006, Palo Duro Records and the Town of Luckenbach celebrated Luckenbach’s musical history by recording live performances of 14 songs from an era that inspired musicians, songwriters and storytellers such as Gary P. Nunn, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Guy Clark, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, whose “Luckenbach Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)” touched millions of people around the world.

Texas artists performing “Up Against the Wall (Redneck Mother),” “London Homesick Blues,” “Sangria Wine,” “Gettin’ By,” “What I Like About Texas,” “Desperados Waiting for a Train” and more were Jimmy LaFave, Cory Morrow, john Arthur martinez, Gary P. Nunn, Two Tons of Steel, Ed Burleson, Brian Burns, The McKay Brothers, Morrison-Williams, Walt Wilkins, Tommy Alverson, The Derailers and members of the original Lost Gonzo Band.

LUCKENBACH! COMPADRES!, co-produced by Walt Wilkins and Tommy Alverson, is the first release in the Palo Duro Records Luckenbach Texas Music Series. Additional live recordings at the historical venue are planned, with the second installment to be announced in the next several weeks.

The mission of Palo Duro Records (“Country Music, Texas Spirit”) is to release the best of Texas-made music in a way that reflects the authenticity of its artists. The label is also home to the notable brands Shiner Records, Luckenbach Texas, and the Texas Unplugged Music Series.

If you go to Nashville or even L.A., you’ll find a lot of great talent sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring with a big deal,” says Chris Thomas, Palo Duro founder. “In Texas, you find this attitude of, ‘I’m gonna do it anyhow,’ and you also find a lot of opportunities to play live right out the back door. Quite a few guys are doing well with nothing but a bull-in-a-China shop attitude of just making it happen no matter what.

Austin, TX — To whet appetites for the March 29 release of the self-titled debut album by Morrison-Williams — Texas duo Shayne Morrison and Clint Williams — Palo Duro Records will ship the discs featuring the first single, “My Girl Friday,” to national radio and print media on January 24.

The single, “My Girl Friday,” is an upbeat, timely anthem written from a unique perspective and with a clear message: Be good to your wife or girlfriend or she might run into the arms of another man. The track is also featured on the CDX Vol. 358 and CD-TEX Vol. 28 compilations.

Since their years together in the hit-making country group Perfect Stranger, Morrison and Williams have been collaborating on new material for fans who have been clamoring for more. While the pair’s new material is built on Perfect Stranger’s foundation, it travels several steps further into progressive country territory, with sophisticated yet accessible lyrics and strong melodies supported by soulful guitar, mandolin, fiddle, Dobro and tight harmonies

Produced by Morrison, Williams and J.B. Patterson, the new album was recorded at Rosewood Studios in Tyler, Texas, mixed by Patterson and Greg Hunt, and mastered by Jerry Tubb at Terra Nova Digital Audio in Austin.

Morrison-Williams will perform with Jack Ingram on January 28 at the Texas Music Theater in Waxahachie. The duo will headline a special South By Southwest private party March 19 at Austin’s Lucky Lounge with Palo Duro label-mate Two Tons of Steel.

In other news from Palo Duro Records, the recently signed roots-rockabilly icons Texas Two Tons of Steel are in the studio this month with producer Lloyd Maines to record a new album, Vegas. Also in development is the second installment of the label’s all-acoustic music series, Texas Unplugged, which is slated for release later this year.
